Today we hit the 20 week mark-halfway through the pregnancy. I can't believe how fast 5 months can go by, now I just hope these next 5 months fly by just as quick. We can't wait to meet our little guy. We haven't started with the nursery or any shopping but definitely have set our eyes on a few items such as baby furniture, stroller, nursery theme, etc. It's been hard to resist the urge to start buying, give us a few more weeks of "window shopping"!
So far into our pregnancy we've had the opportunity to see our little guy 6 times due to his lack of cooperation but it has been amazing to see the changes from month to month. I experienced morning sickness for the first 4 months and have picked myself back up and out of the yucky feeling. I do still experience heartburn on a daily basis but can't get myself to take those darn Tums. Something about chewable tablets---yuck! I'll just stick to the heartburning sensations for now thank you. I'm back to eating mostly everything that I ate before, expect for meat. Meat continues to be a challenge for me-something I never thought would happen. Cravings present here and there. One craving I'm wishing goes away soon is the craving for sweet stuff. It seems as though I'm full and satisfied with a small meal but oh wait...there is always room for something sweet! In fact,if I could, I'd just skip dinner and go straight for dessert. 5 months into my pregnancy and I've finally managed to gain 3 lbs- wow 3 whole pounds!!! Fortunately I lost a lot the first few months during my not so much just "morning" sickness, now my body has decided to hang on to those lbs. I'm still not really showing to others, but have had to make adjustments with my pants.
Sleep? What's that? I can't remember the last time I had a good night of sleep. In all the books i've been reading, they recommend that pregnant women start practicing to sleep on their side and that sleeping on your side makes it easier for both you and the baby. Plus as the stomach continues to grow, sleeping on my stomach will be quite near impossible. So, I've decided to put this into practice. Let me tell you, I have never been so uncomfortable in my life. No matter how many pillows I manage to surround myself with, the discomfort doesn't go away. I wake up in the mornings feeling more tired than I was when I went to bed the night before, probably because I'm tossing and turning the entire night. The couch was a little more comfortable but I think if I make that a habit my back will be shot! So for now, I'll continue sleeping in a state of discomfort, oh well, only 5 more months of this!
Our next doctor appointment is scheduled for February 9th, I'll be a few days short of 6 months. John continues to travel on a weekly basis down to Durango and comes home to be with us on the weekend. We're hoping the traveling stops in the next few months so daddy gets to experience some of what pregnancy is all about. I have to say he has been great in making sure that all is well and done when he is home for the weekends.
