Getting Ready for Delivery

With the news of being induced a week early, I really started worrying about not getting to take childbirth preparation and infant care classes before baby comes. We had decided to wait to take classes in the month of May, simply because we "had time" and weren't 100% sure of John's work/travel schedule. John has stopped traveling for the time being and will probably not return to doing so until a few months after the birth of our little guy, if necessary. Me getting sick paid off, after having a horrible day with vomiting and nausea and john having to help me, his bosses have decided it is best to keep him here in Denver. So anyways, with baby being induced a week early I started looking at the calendar and realized this meant we were only 8 weeks away from arrival (at the latest) and needed to get these classes in ASAP! When I contacted the hospital to schedule classes, we were lucky to have the instructor approve adding us on to an already full class so that we could meet our deadline.

We've decided to take two classes, one is Childbirth Preparation and the other is Infant Care. Our Childbirth Preparation class is spread over a four week period for 3 hours each class. This class is focused on preparing both mom and dad for the delivery process and what to expect before, during, and after labor. Our class has 12 couples, all of whom are due around the same time as us. It was nice getting to sit in a room full of people all going through the same experiences at the same time.

Tonight we briefly reviewed anatomy, stages of labor, and discussed what pregnancy has been like this far for both the dads and the moms. Our next three classes will break down the labor process further and spend a class on each stage. Both John and I left feeling good about our decision to take this class and are looking forward to the next few weeks.
