Interviewing our Mohel

Today we met with a Mohel, a Jewish man trained in the practice of Brit Milah (circumcision). We have decided to circumcise our son in the Jewish tradition rather than at the hospital for a few reasons. First, since we are both of different religious backgrounds we decided that our son will have the opportunity to grow up and make decisions for himself as far as what he'd like to practice or not practice. Our son will get the best of both worlds, both a circumcision and a baptism, he will then be able to do whatever he would like! Second, it was news to us that an obstetrician typically performs circumcisions, this made mommy a bit nervous. When we spoke with our pediatrician she also strongly encouraged that the obstetrician perform the circumcision as they are trained in surgery more so than a pediatrician. Yikes!!!! After meeting with the Mohel at a local Starbucks (nothing like discussing penis' and circumcisions over a Venti Iced Chai) we were able to rest assured that this man knew what he was doing and definitely had experience. Over 12 years!!!! John and I are a bit nervous but confident that our son will be just fine and in good hands.
