Our night nurse was probably the best nurse we had during our stay other than the awesome labor and delivery nurse I had. Gina our night nurse was so great with us, teaching us, explaining to us, and did such an excellent job taking care of our baby boy. After two days of barely any sleep, Gina suggested we put our little guy in the nursery for a few hours so both John and I could get a good 3 hours of undisturbed sleep. It was difficult being away from my baby for those 3 hours but we all survived and were reunited at 4 am for a very much needed feeding. Daddy got to sleep on a really uncomfortable couch for the two nights, mommy in a really uncomfortable bed and Monday morning we were packed and ready to go at the crack of dawn!!!
Leaving the hospital was so nice, yet unrealistic. As we got Gabriel into the car and situated for our ride home, tears filled my eyes. I couldn't believe that this was real, that we finally have our own baby, that we are parents, that our family has grown, that we get to take our son home and into the world to teach him and model for him to be the best person he can be. Grandpa wanted his grandson to get to ride home in style so he gave us his Mercedes to take Gabriel home in. Daddy drove very carefully, surprisingly he didn't go 20mph, but actually drove speed limit.
When we pulled up to our house, both Grandmas were waiting anxiously for the arrival of their new grandson. They had decorated the house with flowers, balloons, and a "It's A Boy" sign and of course had some delicious meals cooking on the stove. Grandpa came over a little later to visit us as well.
The dogs were also anxiously waiting in the house for me to come and greet them, their mommy had just disappeared for the weekend and they were very excited to say hi. The introduction between Gabriel and the animals couldn't have gone over any smoother than it did. Max, our Golden Retriever, fell in love immediately as he kept putting his head in the car seat, in the swing, and wherever else Gabriel was. He even gave him a welcoming kiss on the head. Titan, our Great Dane puppy, didn't exactly realize there was a new arrival until he himself calmed down from such excitement of seeing us. Once the initial excitement was over, Titan came over to the car seat and stuck his entire giant face up towards the baby's to give him a good smell. Thankfully Titan doesn't kiss because if he would have, Gabriel would have been drenched with love. Both dogs seem to be excited about the little guy. The cats are still trying to figure out what this little moving thing is and are very curious.
We are so excited to be home to start this adventure called parenthood.
